Spectrum Youth and Family Services
The Spectrum shelter helped me out so much. It led to so many other things. Spectrum worked with me to get a stable place to live. They helped me find a job. I got my GED. Without Spectrum, I don't know where I would be today. They saved my life and helped me open my eyes and realize how much was out there for me.

The YFWP provides support, education, and clinical services to help young people (14-21 years old) who may have substance abuse and mental health issues.

Last year, 142 volunteers gave 11,485 hours of work that saved Spectrum $172,275. There are many opportunities for volunteering or interning with Spectrum.

In 2009, Spectrum was nationally recognized as the Agency of the Year by the National Network for Youth. In the words of the nominator of this award: This has been a year of transformation for Spectrum Youth and Family Services. Spectrum’s Youth Cooperative is a group living program for six adolescent males that provides a community-based transition from foster care to independent living.

Spectrum’s Single Room Occupancy (SRO) residence provides nine private rooms and a common kitchen, dining, and living room for homeless youth making the transition to independent living.

Spectrum One Stop (SOS), conveniently located on Pearl Street in Burlington, is an emergency youth shelter, drop-in center, and multi-service center, which offers youth ages 14-21 a comprehensive continuum of services, including education, employment, substance abuse and mental health counseling, and much more.

The Youth Development Program serves youth who are, or have been in the custody of the State, or young people in the substitute care system under the Department for Children and Families.

Spectrum recognizes that each school community is different with respect to structure, readiness, need, and capabilities. SAP is designed to work with individual school communities to assess their needs, interests, and capabilities and to design a customized Student Assistance Program to provide a basis for substance use and related mental health education, prevention and intervention services.

The JOBS Program is a collaborative effort between Spectrum and the HowardCenter. The program serves youth (16-21) who have been identified as having an emotional and/or behavioral disability and are in need of extra support and services to maintain and make progress in their educational settings and /or obtain and maintain employment.
