Drop In Center

Drop-in is a safe place for young people to hang-out, eat a meal, use the telephone, do laundry, or take a shower. This is where many youth make initial contact with Spectrum, and begin to access our services. Peer Outreach Workers (POW!s) staff Drop-In, and they plan and facilitate activities for youth, including:

  • Street Smart curriculum sessions — HIV and STD prevention program that targets the runaway and homeless youth population
  • Dating violence and healthy relationship groups
  • Education and support programs for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) homeless, runaway, and disconnected youth
  • Discussion groups on current community issues and events
  • Healthy activities range from: The Youth in Focus: Photography Program, snowboarding with the Burton's Chill program, rock climbing, bowling, bike repair clinic, clay pottery studio excursions and more
  • Monthly open-forum meetings to discuss Drop-In issues

In 2006, approximately 644 youth were provided over 3,797 meals and made visits to our Drop-In Center to meet basic needs, or to participate in education, prevention, and recreation activities.
