On Wednesday, Aug. 17, the Vermont Lake Monsters hosted Mobius and local mentor pairs at Centennial Field in Burlington. Nearly 50 mentors and mentees were treated to free admission and an exciting evening of baseball.

Spectrum Youth Services in Burlington had a special visitor Monday to help celebrate its 40th year. Senator Pat Leahy was one of the first board members of Spectrum when it started in 1970. Since then, the organization has helped tens of thousands of homeless and runaway kids.

Two years ago, when a judge in Ver­mont District Court in Burlington wanted to send a teenager facing drug or alcohol charges to treatment, the offender typically had to wait at least a week for that help. The lag time meant some didn’t show up for their appointments, and many found them­selves back in court on new charges. A Spectrum Youth and Family Services program has helped break the cycle, and the Burlington orga­nization has earned national recognition for it.
