Maple Street SRO Spectrum's Single Room Occupancy (SRO) residence provides nine private rooms and a common kitchen, dining, and living room for homeless youth transitioning to independent living. These young people are single, homeless, low-income youth between the ages of sixteen and twenty-one, whose stay may be from three to eighteen months. Spectrum collaborates with the Burlington Community Land Trust (BCLT), who owns and manages the property. The youth are responsible for paying a portion of the rent for their room.
The Spectrum case-management staff works with a team for each youth to support them in stabilizing their life and building the necessary skills to live independently. This program divides these skills into core youth development areas: - Career development
- Financial literacy
- Health (including physical & mental health/substance abuse)
- Education
- Life skills and Recreation
