Building Maintenance & Custodian

This is a full-time position consisting of 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, and is responsible for performing daily cleaning and basic maintenance & repairs across several locations.  Daily cleaning is expected to represent approximately half of this position. Weekly cleaning and additional “deep cleaning” are also required at other Burlington locations.  More locations may be added in the future.  General maintenance will include basic maintenance such as moving small furniture or items up to 50 lbs., replacing lighting, painting, minimal maintenance/building exterior maintenance, maintaining fixtures, consulting with building/maintenance items, and coordination with outside vendors on larger projects. This is a non-exempt position which pays $20.00 per hour and is eligible for an excellent benefits package.

Custodial

  • Daily cleaning at the Burlington Drop-in, Pearl Street Residence, and the Landing.  Included but not limited to vacuuming, trash, surface cleaning, mopping, bathrooms, and offices.

  • Take a proactive approach to the cleanliness and appearance of all Spectrum properties and spaces

Maintenance

  • Perform basic maintenance & repairs to Spectrum property, spaces, furniture, or on behalf of staff
  • Tasks will include but are not limited to:
    1. Maintaining and prioritizing staff maintenance request
    2. Furniture assembly
    3. Painting
    4. General building maintenance
    5. Delivery of packages & furniture between locations
    6. Minor landscaping/exterior building cleaning
    7. Coordination with outside vendors on larger building or maintenance projects

Knowledge and Skills Required 

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in general construction or minor repairs & maintenance 
  • A valid driver’s license

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong organizational, record-keeping and fiscal monitoring skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively 
  • Ability to organize work and manage time to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines, including the ability to adapt to changing priorities

Work Environment 

Upbeat and fast-paced environment.  This position frequently works independently.  The position requires standing a large portion of the day and frequently walking and/or driving between locations in downtown Burlington.

Multicultural Youth Program Coordinator

This position is responsible for providing program co-coordination and assisting in the continuing development of the Multicultural Youth Program (MYP). Under the supervision of the MYP Manager, the MYP Coordinator will provide support in the areas of community outreach and program co-development.

The coordinator will have knowledge and connections to various community resources and partners that provide services to the various and existing multicultural communities. 

The coordinator will participate in a team setting and/or on a partnering level with the MYP Manager to implement logistical and informational elements that will assist in finalizing the structure of the Multicultural Youth Program. In addition to this, the coordinator will also provide educational support and assistance to multicultural youth who use the MYP space. This is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position with an annual salary starting at $41,600.00. 

Essential Functions

  • Assist in the development of program aspects structure of the Multicultural Youth Program.
  • Act as Volunteer Coordinator, including recruitment and training of volunteers.
  • Coordinate and schedule meetings with possible community partners that will benefit the work    done by the Multicultural Youth Program.
  • Be responsible for taking and maintaining meeting notes from MYP team meetings.
  • Support and assist youth in an educational context.
  • Participate in staff meetings, and trainings as scheduled.
  • Advocate for youth-identified resource needs to support healthy growth and development within the agency and in the community.  
  • Assist in the development of specific training for staff and volunteers. 
  • Provide agency and community resources orientation and training. 
  • May be required to provide interdepartmental support.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Knowledge & Skills Required 

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or counseling preferred or relevant experience. Minimum 1 year experience in social work or counseling field and coordinating experience preferred but not required.
  • Must be knowledgeable about issues facing target population (e.g. information specific to cultural groups identified as being at-risk, homelessness, HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, mental health problems, family conflict, physical health issues, criminality, etc.) or be willing to learn.
  • Ability to engage and build rapport with both adolescents and young adults and set effective limits and boundaries with youth and others.
  • Ability to work independently, as a team member, and abide by the NASW code of Ethics.
  • Willingness to participate in supervision, identify needs and issues, ask for assistance, support and training, and be able to accept and utilize feedback.
  • Commitment to the values of diversity with respect to culture, race, ethnicity, gender identity, age, socio-economic level, sexual orientation and religion.

Work Environment 

The above duties will be carried out in a variety of settings including on-site, various community meeting settings, schools and public gatherings. This is a full-time position, and the working hours will correspond to the operation and needs of the program.


Supported Housing Respite Staff

Respite Staff are covering shifts for full-time Supported Housing Staff and assume the same overall responsibilities. Respite Staff are responsible for the overall safety of program residents and management of the supported housing facility. Staff is expected to support residents to achieve the goals outlined in their service plan while holding them accountable for program expectations.

Staff is expected to be an active part of a team and model effective, appropriate, and timely communication with others regarding client updates. This position has an immediate start date for training, however, is on an as needed basis once trained. Respite staff could be needed any day per week or any combination of days, the hours are always 1:00 am – 9:00 am. The staff member has discretion to accept or deny an offered shift. The wage is $20.00 per hour with a 9 % shift differential between the hours of 1:00 and 7:00 am.

Essential Functions 

  • Supervise and engage residents in program expectations: 
    • Ensure safety of all residents while on the premises/ in community 
    • Uphold and maintain program rules and regulations at all times 
    • Perform facility maintenance to uphold a professional atmosphere 
      • Assist residents in carrying out daily routines and achieving goals outlined in their service plans 
    • Support skill building in life skill areas 
    • Adhere to resident medication plans 
    • Support residents and/or case managers with move-in and move-out procedures 
  • Responsible for accurate and timely completion of record keeping including: 
    • Individual client files, logs and daily database entry

  • Communication and cross over with other staff is expected including the following:

  • It is expected the Respite staff will respond to all requests for coverage to detail if they can take a shift or not. This can be done via email, text or phone calls. 

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • High school degree required and Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Minimum of one year experience working with at-risk adolescents. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of adolescent development and at-risk youth including the following: mental health and substance abuse issues; trauma; attachment issues; complex family dynamics; developmental challenges 
    • Knowledge of life skills work including meal preparation, budgeting, cleaning, healthy decision making, conflict resolution, and job readiness/employment skills. 
    • Ability to set limits and maintain appropriate boundaries. Model professional conduct in and out of work. 
    • Ability to work as an effective team member.

Work Environment

This is both a field and office position and may require some travel for activities, client appointment, etc. Due to the nature of supported housing work shifts include days, evenings, awake overnights, weekends, and holidays. Schedules and shifts are subject to change.

This position is eligible for a $1000 sign on bonus. It will be paid in two installments, one with the first paycheck and the second after 90 days of continuous employment.
